Dr. Howard Bellin – Information Regarding Facelifts
17 Mar
As you mature, the constructive supports in your skin (the protein known as collagen) gradually get replaced by a weaker network of elastic fibers which cause your skin to sag and stretch out. Cigarette smoking and prolonged sun exposure will exacerbate the aging process.
Creases form between the nose and mouth, the jaw line eventually grows slack and jowly, and folds and fat deposits appear around the neck, among other things. A facelift obviously can´t stop this aging process, but it can “turn back the clock” by improving the most visible signs of aging.
The best candidates for a facelift
Most facelift patients are in their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on people well into their seventies or eighties. Although it is uncommon, some people opt for the operation while still in their thirties. As long as your skin has some elasticity and your bone structure is good and well-defined, then you are a choice candidate for the operation.
A facelift can make you look younger and enhance your self-confidence. What it cannot do is give you a totally different look, nor can it restore the health and vitality of youth. Dr. Howard Bellin will assist you in thinking carefully about your expectations and goals.
Your initial consultation
Facelifts are very personal operations. During your initial interview, Dr. Howard Bellin will evaluate your face, including the skin and underlying bone. He will also check for medical conditions that could cause problems during or after the surgery, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clotting troubles, or the tendency to form excessive scars. Be sure to tell him if you smoke or are taking any drugs or medications, especially aspirin or other drugs that affect clotting.
Dr. Howard Bellin will explain the type of facelift he will perform, and the risks and costs involved. Don’t hesitate to ask him any questions you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results.
The surgery
A typical facelift takes a few hours. Facelifts are commonly done in conjunction with other procedures. If you’re having more than one procedure done, expect the surgery to last longer. You may have to schedule multiple sessions for more extensive procedures.
